AnyLLM in Jira — Issue Panel, Sidebar Panel, Issue Navigator and Command Palette

This page describes every place where AnyLLM appears in Jira (entry points, surfaces): the app page, the issue panel, the issue sidebar panel, the issue action, the fullscreen overlay, the issue navigator, the command palette and the standalone full page. For each surface you learn how to get there, what it knows about the current issue and which controls it offers.

What this does

The same AI with the same permissions runs on every surface. The surfaces differ only in size and in what they know: the app page and the standalone full page know no issue; the issue panel, the issue sidebar panel and the issue action know the open issue; the issue navigator knows the issues you selected or your current search. Everything personal — history, memory, saved choices, your own agents and skills — is the same on every surface and in Confluence, because AnyLLM is one installation for both products.

Who can do this

Everyone with access to Jira. Which surfaces are available is decided by your administration under Modules (see Modules: Switching Surfaces On and Off). Switched-off surfaces keep their menu entries but open only the notice This feature has been disabled by your administrator.

Before you start

• The app has been set up by your administration; otherwise you see a notice instead of the chat (see Getting Started).
• Issue context is read with your permissions: what you may not see, the AI does not see either. If the administration has set AI access to Jira and Confluence to Off, no issue content is sent and the entry Include page context is not offered.

App page

Purpose — the full chat with the history sidebar, without issue context. Permission — all users. Before you start — the module Global page (Jira) is enabled.

Steps

1. In the Jira main navigation open Apps → AnyLLM Chat.
2. Type your question into the field Message AnyLLM … and press Enter.

Expected result — the chat opens with the sidebar on the left (Chat, Agents, Skills, History with New) and no header row. At the bottom of the sidebar you find Settings (administrators only), Switch to Confluence ↗ and Open as full page ↗ (see Standalone full page). Issue panel

Purpose — chat about the open issue directly in the issue view; compact, so the issue stays in view. Permission — all users who can see the issue. Before you start — the module Issue panel is enabled.

Steps

1. Open an issue and find the panel AnyLLM Chat in the issue's panel area.
2. Ask your question, e.g. "Summarize the status" or "What is blocking here?".

Expected result — the panel has a fixed height; the conversation scrolls inside it. Jira shows the panel title itself, so the header row contains only ☰ (Show history / Hide history), ↓ Export and + New chat (once the conversation has messages) and ⤢ Fullscreen (see Fullscreen overlay). ☰ opens the history over the chat. Include page context in the ＋ menu is on by default, so the issue (key, title, status, assignee, description and the last comments) is sent with every message — see Prompts, Skills, Memory and Model Parameters (＋ Menu).

Issue sidebar panel

Purpose — the same compact chat in the right-hand context area of the issue, next to the fields. Permission — all users who can see the issue. Before you start — the module Issue sidebar panel is enabled.

Steps

1. Open an issue and click the entry AnyLLM in the right-hand context area.
2. Ask your question.

Expected result — a compact chat with a fixed height that scrolls inside, with the same header controls as the issue panel: ☰, ↓ Export and + New chat (once there are messages), ⤢ Fullscreen. Because the context area is narrow, ☰ opens the history as an overlay over the chat with a dimmed background; clicking the dimmed area, pressing Esc or choosing a conversation closes it. Include page context is on by default.

Issue action

Purpose — open a large chat dialog about the issue from the issue's action menu. Permission — all users who can see the issue. Before you start — the module Issue action ("Analyze with AI") is enabled.

Steps

1. In the issue, open the ••• menu and click AnyLLM Chat.
2. Ask your question.

Expected result — a large dialog with the compact chat layout opens: header with ☰ (Show history / Hide history), the brand AnyLLM, ↓ Export and + New chat (once there are messages), ⤢ Fullscreen and Close. Include page context is on by default. If the surface is switched off, the dialog shows only the notice This feature has been disabled by your administrator. with a Close link.

Fullscreen overlay

Purpose — get the full-size chat without leaving the issue. Permission — all users. Before you start — the module Fullscreen chat (Jira) is enabled.

Steps

1. In the issue panel, the issue sidebar panel or the issue action, click ⤢ Fullscreen (tooltip Open the chat fullscreen) in the header.

Expected result — the chat opens as a fullscreen overlay titled AnyLLM on top of the issue. It looks like the app page: history sidebar on the left (expanded on windows of about 900 px and more), no header row, export via ＋ → ↓ Export conversation (Markdown), and Open as full page ↗ at the bottom of the sidebar. Include page context refers to the issue you opened the overlay from. Close the overlay with its own ✕ — you are still on the issue. Only if the overlay cannot be opened does ⤢ Fullscreen take you to the app page instead. If the administration has switched off Fullscreen chat (Jira), the overlay shows only the notice This feature has been disabled by your administrator.

Issue navigator

Purpose — ask questions about several issues at once: the ones you selected in the issue list or the whole current search. Permission — all users; the issues are read with your permissions. Before you start — the module Issue navigator chat is enabled (a Preview feature).

Steps

1. In the issue list, select the issues you want to ask about — or leave the selection empty to use your current search.
2. Open the Apps menu of the issue list and click AnyLLM Chat.
3. Ask your question. The start screen suggests: Ask anything about the selected issues — e.g. "Summarize the status", "What is blocking?", "Group by theme".

Expected result — the full chat opens as a dialog with a header: ☰ (Show history / Hide history), the brand AnyLLM, the product button Confluence (tooltip Open AnyLLM in Confluence), ↓ Export and + New chat (once there are messages), ⤢ Fullscreen and, for administrators, Settings. There is no Close button — close the dialog with Jira's own ✕. Below the input field, in the composer bar, a chip shows the working basis: {n} issues selected (up to 25 issues) or Current search (JQL); its tooltip reads These issues are included as context. Here the context is always included, regardless of your Include page context setting, and it stays available for follow-up questions.

Command palette

Purpose — jump to the app page from the keyboard. Permission — all users. Before you start — the module Global page (Jira) is enabled; the command palette entry has no toggle of its own. If the app page is switched off, the entry stays visible, but the app page opens only with the notice This feature has been disabled by your administrator.

Steps

1. Press ⌘K (macOS) or Ctrl+K (Windows/Linux).
2. Type "AnyLLM" (the entry is also found via "chat", "ai", "ask" or "assistant") and choose AnyLLM Chat.

Expected result — you land on the app page.

Standalone full page

Purpose — use the chat on its own browser page, without the Jira or Confluence frame around it — e.g. in a second window or on a small screen. Permission — all users. Before you start — the module Standalone full page in the group Across products is enabled (a Preview feature).

Steps

1. Open the app page (Apps → AnyLLM Chat) — or the fullscreen overlay, the Confluence macro or the issue navigator with the sidebar expanded.
2. At the bottom of the sidebar click Open as full page ↗.

Expected result — the chat opens on its own browser page in the same layout as the app page (sidebar, no header row). It knows no issue or page, so Include page context is not offered. At the bottom of the sidebar Switch to Jira ↗ takes you back to the app page in Jira — from the full page this link always leads to Jira, even if you came from Confluence — and the link Open as full page is not shown there. There is no menu entry for the full page; the link in the sidebar is the only way in. If the administration has switched the full page off, the link is still shown, but the page opens only with the notice This feature has been disabled by your administrator.
