Getting Started
Getting Started
This page is your first orientation: where AnyLLM appears in Jira and Confluence (entry points, surfaces), what you see on the first screen, how the interface is laid out (sidebar, header, input area) and how to ask your first question. Signing in is not needed.
What this does
AnyLLM is an AI chat inside Jira and Confluence. Depending on where you open it, the chat knows the issue or page you are looking at and can include it in its answers. The same AI with the same permissions runs on every surface; the surfaces differ only in size and in what they know about your current context.
Who can do this
Everyone with access to Jira or Confluence. Which surfaces are available is decided by your administration.
Before you start
- AnyLLM has no sign-in of its own. You are signed in as soon as you are signed in to Jira or Confluence — no separate password, no invitation, no extra account. For the same reason there is no signing out of AnyLLM: once you sign out of Atlassian, AnyLLM is no longer reachable either.
- The app must be set up by your administration (connection, endpoint approval, subscription). If it is not, you see a notice instead of the chat — see The first screen.

| Standalone full page | at the bottom of the app-page sidebar → Open as full page | the chat on its own browser page without the Jira frame; no context; there is no menu entry for it |
In addition, every dialog and panel offers ⤢ Fullscreen, which opens the chat as an overlay on top of the current issue — see Fullscreen overlay. Details of all Jira surfaces: AnyLLM in Jira.

The first screen
When you open the chat, you see one of the following states:
| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| How can I help? with the line Ask questions, search Jira & Confluence or summarize content — the history is saved automatically. | everything is ready | type a question |
| Not set up yet with the line The chat is available once an admin has configured the app.; the input field is locked and reads Configuration by an admin required.; above the chat the banner Not configured yet — an administrator sets the endpoint, models and API key in the app settings (Jira: Settings → Apps · Confluence: Settings → AnyLLM). | the app has not been fully set up | inform the administration |
| Banner The AnyLLM subscription for this site is inactive — an administrator can review it in Atlassian administration (Billing). | the paid subscription is inactive; no new answers, but history, memory, agents and skills keep working | inform the administration |
| This feature has been disabled by your administrator. | this particular surface has been switched off (the dialog variants also show a Close link) | use a different entry point, e.g. the app page |
Interface tour: the app page
The app page (and likewise the fullscreen overlay and the standalone full page) has no header row. Everything you need is in the sidebar on the left and in the input area at the bottom:

Sidebar
- At the top: the brand AnyLLM and the button « (Collapse sidebar). It shrinks the sidebar to a narrow icon bar with Chat, Agents, Skills, + New chat and — for administrators — Settings (labels as tooltips); » (Expand sidebar) brings the full sidebar back. On windows narrower than about 900 px the sidebar starts collapsed.
- Three sections, each with an icon: Chat (the chat itself), Agents (your own assistants) and Skills (your one-click templates) — see Creating Your Own Agents and Skills.
- History with the button New (starts a fresh conversation) and the list of your saved conversations; pinned entries come first. When you hover an entry, its icons appear: Pin (stays on top), Fork — continue in a copy, Archive to Confluence and Delete — see Managing Chat History. Without conversations the list reads No conversations yet.
- At the bottom: Settings (only visible to administrators; opens the app settings), Switch to Confluence / Switch to Jira ↗ (AnyLLM in the other product — shown regardless of whether AnyLLM is actually connected there; from the standalone full page the link always leads to Jira) and Open as full page ↗ (the chat on its own browser page).
Main area — your messages and the answers. Below each finished answer the name of the model that produced it is shown. Tool steps such as "Jira search: …" appear as small rows while the AI looks something up.
Input area (composer) — the field Message AnyLLM … and, in the bar below it: the + button (More options, see the + menu), the selectors for agent and model (each only shown when there is something to choose; screen-reader labels Choose agent / Choose model), blue chips for active special states and, on the right, the send button (arrow icon, tooltip Send (Enter)), which becomes the stop button (tooltip Stop) while an answer is running.
Dialogs and panels: the header
The issue panel, the issue sidebar panel, the issue action, the assistant below the page title, the macro and the issue navigator show a header row instead of the permanent sidebar: ☰ (Show history / Hide history) opens the history over the chat; the brand AnyLLM (not on the issue panel and the issue sidebar panel, where Jira already shows the title); ↓ Export and + New chat (once the conversation has messages); ⤢ Fullscreen; Close (issue action and page assistant only). The macro and the issue navigator additionally show the product button Confluence / Jira and, for administrators, Settings. Export in these surfaces is the header button; on the app page it lives in the + menu.
Fullscreen overlay
⤢ Fullscreen (tooltip Open the chat fullscreen) opens the chat as a fullscreen overlay titled AnyLLM on top of the issue or page you are on. It looks like the app page — history sidebar on the left, export in the + menu — and you close it with the overlay's own ✕. You stay where you were. Only if the overlay cannot be opened on a surface are you taken to the app page instead. Inside the overlay, Include page context refers to the issue or page you opened it from. In Jira, administrators can switch the overlay off separately (module Fullscreen chat (Jira)).
Narrow windows
In dialogs and panels the history sidebar is hidden by default; ☰ opens it over the chat. On surfaces narrower than about 640 px the open sidebar lies over the chat with a dimmed background: clicking the dimmed area, pressing Esc, clicking « or ☰ again closes it, and it also closes automatically when you pick a conversation or open Agents or Skills. On the app page the sidebar never disappears — « / » only collapses and expands it.
Step by step: your first question
- In Jira or Confluence open Apps → AnyLLM Chat.
- Click into the field Message AnyLLM ….
- Type your question. For a line break press Shift+Enter.
- Press Enter or click the send button (arrow icon).
Expected result
The answer appears word by word while it is generated; during that time the input field is locked and the send button becomes the stop button (tooltip Stop). Below the finished answer you see the model name; the conversation is saved automatically under History and gets a short title after the first answer. Everything else about asking questions — states, agents and models, regenerate, stop, export — is on Chatting with the AI.
